Planning a wedding might have it’s difficulties, but married life is when the real work
starts! It can be daunting, but it is also super exciting and totally worth it! You hear a lot of advice
before you get married and we’re always open to tips for a happy marriage but the advice that
usually hits closest to our heart’s and that we keep with us forever is from our parents. These
older, more “seasoned” couples look at the newlyweds and offer insight for the road ahead.
We asked some of the people closest to us what advice they gave to their children on
their wedding day. And this is what they said:

“It’s not about the “day” but the life you want after the day. Be sure of yourself and the one you
are marrying- and the rest, although challenging- will lead to your happily ever after.”
“Marriage will be as wonderful as what you both put into it. It is like a garden. It needs tending to
grow string and healthy. Get rid of weeds of doubt and anger. Water your garden regularly with
love, and fertilize it by overlooking a lot of BS!”

“Never go to bed angry. Even if the problem is unresolved, go to bed with kisses and I love
you’s. Always kiss each other goodnight, even if you were just arguing.”

“One of the most important things in marriage is to always put the other person’s needs ahead
of your own. I believe many marriages fail because we often focus on our own needs. Focus on
the good things about your spouse. We all have strengths and weaknesses. The longer you live
together the more obvious they become, but if we always focus on the good things about each
other and the things you fell in love with in the first place, the chance of having a successful
marriage is multiplied.”

We have always wondered if there is a secret to staying in love and we’ve come to decide
that is it not about just finding the right mate, but also being the right mate. What are some
